A Comprehensive Guide to the 6.7 EGR Delete Kit

What Is EGR Delete?

Engine makers create EGR, or exhaust gas recirculation, devices to control emissions. It is an abbreviation for Exhaust Gas Recirculation.

EGR works by sending some of the exhaust gas to the engine intake in a 6.7-liter power stroke. It also lowers engine efficiency to comply with emission regulations.

Engines with a 6.7 power stroke, for example, experience combustion at high temperatures. As a result, the engine produces nitrogen oxides that may damage the ozone layer. An EGR valve, on the other hand, reduces temperature and keeps the engine from oxidizing.

The EGR valve needs to be blocked or removed in order to enhance the vehicle's quality. because it returns exhaust to the engine, which may produce unintended consequences for the car.

Understanding 6.7 EGR Delete Kit

The 6.7 EGR delete kit is a popular modification for Ford Powerstrok trucks. It is necessary to remove the exhaust gas recirculation system since it may cause carbon buildup and pinging sounds in the engine. Deleting the EGR system improves fuel economy while lowering carbon buildup and engine pinging. However, doing so may nullify your warranty and make passing emissions tests more difficult. due to the fact that the kit modifies the truck's emissions system.

A mechanical upgrade to enhance a diesel engine's performance and fuel efficiency is a 6.7 EGR Delete Kit. It takes off the engine's EGR valve and related parts. As a result, it enables the engine to burn gasoline more effectively and let in more air. Fuel efficiency, torque, and horsepower all rise dramatically as a result.

Several parts are included with the EGR Delete Kit, including:

  • Plate blocking the EGR valve
  • plate that blocks off the EGR cooler
  • enhanced airflow intake.

The use of EGR Delete kits may be illegal in some areas. Thus, before installing a kit, confirm with your local authorities. The price of an EGR Delete kit varies based on the kit you select and local labor rates. Similarly, consider the advantages and disadvantages before making this change. You might wish to think about other solutions if the noise level or engine damage are worries for you.

Benefits Of Deleting EGR From A 6.7 Powerstroke

Fuel Efficiency
The engine's efficiency will be at its highest after the EGR has been removed. This implies that less gasoline will be required to keep the engine producing the same amount of power.

Increased horsepower and torque
Your engine will run more efficiently if you can keep the carbon dioxide gas from reentering it. Your 6.7 Powerstroke will therefore have more power on the pistons at lower RPMs.

Cleaner air is inhaled by the engine. All you need to do is lightly press the accelerator pedal to obtain sufficient power to fulfill your needs. Besides, you may overtake and maneuver in city traffic with little effort on your part when shifting gears.

Removes Unwanted Components
Particulates and carbon soot cannot re-enter the engine after the EGR is removed. The engine discards the manifold, pistons, and other parts as a result.

Engine Performs Better
Compared to an engine with more carbon particles circulating in it, a clean engine operates more efficiently and lasts longer.

Reduces Carbon Soot
Because carbon soot is an abrasive substance, it causes moving parts to wear out more quickly. You can lessen the amount of carbon soot produced when the fuel is burned with oxygen-rich air by turning off the EGR. By doing this, early DPF and catalytic converter blocks are avoided.

Gives Proper Combustion
Once the EGR is removed, your 6.7 Powerstroke will operate flawlessly. As a result, the gasoline is burned correctly and each cylinder experiences proper combustion.

Make Fewer Smoke
There won't be any leftover fuel leaking out of the engine when the fuel burns. As a result, you will produce less smoke with your 6.7 Powerstroke.

Drawbacks Of Deleting EGR From A 6.7 Powerstroke

Accumulates Harmful Gasses
We are aware that EGR lowers emissions in cars, and that carbon soot levels decrease when it is obstructed. It is beneficial for a 6.7 Powerstroke, but there could also be some negative effects. similar to the build-up of NOx, carbon monoxide, and other dangerous gases.

Causes Noise
Fuel combustion becomes more vigorous when the EGR burns it, which may cause vibration and noise. In addition, removing the EGR from a 6.7 Powerstroke will raise the temperature of combustion. This has a tendency to knock a lot.

Affects Turbocharged Vehicles
Since the EGR cannot receive the hotter exhaust gas, it passes through the turbocharger. This shortens the life of the turbocharged cars and makes them work harder.

Certain Parts May Be Broken
The removal of the EGR causes fuel to burn at a higher temperature. The 6.7 Powerstroke will consequently operate hot. The vehicle's rubber seals and plastic casings will be damaged since they cannot tolerate this temperature.

Problem With Modern Cars
Modern cars typically have sophisticated sensor systems to control the gas characteristics and EGR. To monitor the EGR system, they also have temperature sensors, oxygen sensors, and an EGR flow meter.

Restricts Power
The ECM recognizes when the EGR is clogged, turns on the limp mode, and illuminates the check engine light to alert the driver. The engine may then provide you with low-end torque, but the power will be limited.

Installation Process

  1. Cut the battery off. This is a crucial step to take before beginning any engine maintenance since it will guard against unintentional electrical shorts.
  2. Take the air intake tube off. It will give you access to the EGR cooler.
  3. Cut off the lines that cool the EGR. Take care to avoid spilling any coolant.
  4. Take the EGR cooler off. The thing might be fastened in place with a few bolts or screws.
  5. Put the EGR delete kit in place. Usually, a set of hoses and a block-off plate are needed for this.
  6. Replug the EGR cooler back in. Verify that the coolant lines are connected correctly.
  7. Replug the air intake tube back in.
  8. Link the battery back in.

Installing a 6.7 EGR Delete Kit is a reasonably simple procedure. Usually, EGR delete kits can be bought online or from aftermarket performance stores.
